​Tlaxcala
  • Tlaxcala is a state located in central Mexico, and holds several special features and historical significance. 
  • Tlaxcala was the home of the Tlaxcalteca civilization, which was one of the few indigenous groups in Mexico that successfully resisted the Spanish conquest led by Hernan Cortes in the 16th century. 
  • The Tlaxcalteca people have preserved their ancestral customs and traditions, which are showcased during celebrations such as the Carnival of Tlaxcala and the Fest of Our Lady of Ocotlan.
  • The city of Tlaxcala, its capital, has a well-preserved historic center with colonial buildings, including the Basilica of Ocotlan, which is an important religious site.  Additionally, the Cacaxtla archeological site features ancient murals and structures that provide insight into the pre-Columbian Era.
  • Traditional dishes include escamoles (ant eggs), carnitas (slow-cooked pork), Tlatlapas (a typ of tamale), and molotes (stuffed corn masa cakes).  The state's culinary heritasge reflects a blend o indigenous and Spanish influence.
Yucatan
  • The Yucatan Peninsula is a region located in southeastern Mexico, separating the Caribbean Sea from the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Chichen Itza is one of the most famous Mayan sites in the world and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.  
  • Yucatan boasts some of the most stunning beaches in Mexico.
  • Cenotes are natural sinkholes formed by the collapse of limestone bedrock, revealing underground rivers and pools, Yucatan is renowned for sone of its famous cenotes.
  • The Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a vast protected area encompassing tropical forests, wetlands, and coral reefs.  It offers opportunities for wildlife spotting birdwatching and eco-friendly activities.
  • Yucatecan cuisine is a fusion of Mayan, Spanish, and Caribbean influences.  It is characterized by unique flavors and ingredients, such as achiote (a red spice made from annatto seeds), habanero peppers, and corn-based dishes like cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork).
